How to set prices for materials

Your materials are good to go and ready for upload. You’ve done all the hard work — created the materials, assembled your resources into a nice little bundle, and even chosen a cover image for your product. But wait! There’s just one more thing you need to take care of — that’s right, pricing.

If this is the first time you’re uploading a product, you might be wondering what your asking price should be. On the one hand you want to ensure that your product is accessible and that its price will not deter potential buyers, on the other hand you also want to make sure that you’re receiving fair compensation for all the hard work you put in.

That’s why when pricing your resources, you should follow the following simple steps.

  1. Do your research. What prices are other tutors setting for similar resources? Could you capture more sales by lowering the price for your resources just a bit?
  2. Consider the length. If you are selling a single material, such as a worksheet or an audio file, you would naturally price it at a lower rate than if you were selling a comprehensive bundle of resources.
  3. Consider the quality. How much detail is there in your resource? What is the expected value for tutors who purchase your product? If you’ve put a lot of thought and heart in the creation of a resource, this will be reflected in your product and other tutors will derive more benefit from that resource.
  4. Consider the adaptability of your resource. How easily can the resource be implemented in another tutor’s virtual classroom? Is it editable? Is the format exportable? Does the content allow for the creation of additional exercises?

Once you’ve considered the above, you’ll have a better idea of how much your resource is worth to both you and the tutoring community. Of course, pricing can be hard to nail on your first try, but that’s totally fine — you can readjust the price of your resources at any time to meet the demands of the market.
